Common Beetles Found in Lubbock Homes

Black Carpet Beetle

The most destructive carpet beetle in the region, the black carpet beetle destroys products containing keratin, including animal hair and feathers, and also attacks pantry staples like cereals, grains, and pet food. Adults are attracted to flowers and may fly indoors during spring.

Powderpost Beetle

Powderpost beetles infest dry hardwood: furniture, flooring, trim, and window and door frames. Larvae can remain hidden inside wood for one to five years before emerging. The only visible signs are fine sawdust and small round exit holes, which means damage is often well underway before anyone notices.

Cigarette Beetle

This small brown beetle infests stored food products and can turn up in unexpected areas of a home. Pantry goods, spices, and dried herbs are common targets.

Ground Beetle

Ground beetles are outdoor insects that sometimes enter homes in large numbers during summer. They don’t damage structures or fabrics, but their presence indoors is a nuisance and may indicate gaps around doors, windows, or the foundation that other pests could use as well.
